Ruth Bradfield, who i.s a daugh- ! lt;i!ter of the old-time fire chief, Nath-anial Bradfield. is something of a searcher for beauty in nature, with i enough trav el to make her views i worth listening to. She calls the recession in the Minnesota bluffs, opposite the Gateway City, “LaCrosse’s Glacier National Park,”and points out that it is in thisspot where the winter’s snows remain the longest. The best viewobtainable, except from the Wisconsin blufftops. is along SouthAvenue at about where Farnam, street intersects.Speaking of scenic grandeur in j these parts, Ruth had a rather odd experience some years ago. She wast! riding in a rubberneck bus along a scenic route in California, and thespieler was giving his listeners everything he had. Anyone who has ever been in California may imag-I me the adjectives he was tossing around. But a woman sitting next to Ruth Bradfield turned her head in slight disdain and spoke to Ruth,! in words to this effect, ‘'This seen-!ery is very nice, but the prettiest I ever saw was along the Mississip-i pi between two cities, La Crosse and Winona.”4fc M M
