Kari, Rick and Trever Koedam in their 1998 Christmas photo, (photo submitted)Rock Valley couple wait until October to use 1998 Christmas presentKari and Rick Koedamplan trip to HawaiiA Rock Valley woman won the Pizza Ranch trip giveaway early last February.Kari Koedam’s name was drawn from a box filled with thousands of entries from across the upper Midwest, Koedam entered the drawing at the Pizza Ranch in Sioux Center during the “Anywhere We Want! ” Pizza Ranch Christmas promotion.Kari is married to Rick, an employee of Van Voorst Concrete in Hull. Kari Rus is a 1997 graduate of Rock Valley Christian School.The editor of the Index was interviewing Lawrence Vander Esch, Pizza Ranch co-founder, when Vander Esch turned the tables and asked her to draw the winning card. To vouch for its legality the drawing was videotaped by Glen Zevenber-gen, Sioux Center. The event was witnessed by attorney John De Koster of Hull.Kari Koedam's entry wasdrawn. Kari Koedam is a young mother living in Rock Valley. She is employed by American State Bank in Sioux Center. She and her husband, Rick, are planning to go to Hawaii this October. It might be like a second honeymoon since they don't plan on taking their son, Trever, 1, along.As winners, the Koedam family had the opportunity to design a trip of their choice with the help of The Travel Connection in Hull.Koedam said they chose Hawaii because she doesn’t think they'll have a chance to go to Hawaii otherwise.Jeff Van Schepen, manager of the Sioux Center PizzaRanch, and Jim Van Den Top, owner of the Rock Valley location, both sent their congratulations to the Koedam family.Vander Esch said, “We're very pleased for Kari and hope they have a great deal of fun!”-NHY
