OPERA HOUSE ASSURED,2TjA large and enthusiastic meetiug of the stockholders of the proposed new Opera House was held at the Commercial Club rooms last Saturday evening.The following officers were elect-ei: E. C. Payne, president; Cr.A. Hoff, vice president; W. A. Bibb, treasurer, and B. L. Malone, secretary. It. H.Wolcott was appointed by the stockholders to receive money on subscriptions.In an interview with President Payne a New Decatur Advertiser reporter was informed that all subscribers were responding promptly with the amount subscribed; that one hall of the amount was collected on the first day, and that in a few days the entire sum will be in hand.The lot secured for the new building is located at the corner ol Grant street and Second avenue, and the cost of the new theatre when completed will be between #15,000 and $20,000. Architects are now at work on the plans and when their work is finished the construction will begin.Mr Payne stated that the new play-house would bo modern in every respect, the stage being ade quate to accommodate any produc tion touring the South,In event the remainder of the amount required for the erection of the theatre is not raised in the Decaturs, it is a positive fact that the balance will be made good two dollars for one by a St. Louis party.This story is given to the public exclusively by the New Decatur Advertiser, with the assurance tha there are no “hot air” connections, as a reporter was favored with a view of the credentials by the genial president.
