THE very mild and beautiful winter has nearly passed away, and here we are now in the middle of March. No sign of any seals up to date, but we are in hopes of having a chance to “ grease our ropes” yet. All we want is a few days* in winds.NOTHING of any importance has occurred here the winter. Hut stay! rumour has just reached us that a young man—Freake—of 41 blood-thirsty”—fame attempted to clear out Fogo Harbor with a sealing gun. The desperado has been arrested, and without any 44 pressing*’ from Magistrate Malcolm has been induced to spend the next 30 days as a guest of Her Majesty's jailor.A SPLENDID concert was given in the S. U. F. Hall the latter part of February. Without any exaggeration, we can safely say it was one of the finest entertainments held here for a long time. Space would not permit me to mention the different actors and the way the several parts were played, but each one was up to the mark. Special mention must be made of Mr. H. J. Earle and his sons. Mr. Earle has been untiring in bringing this concert to a success. The sum of $35, which was collected, will be devoted to the erection of a Parish Hall for Fogo. We are always pleased to see Mr. F. C. Earle, of Change Islands, on the platform, and it is safe to say 44 Skipper Charlie” was the comedian of the even-______THE ladies of Fogo have received a communication from Lady McCallum in re the collecting of money for the purpose of making clothes, etc., for our brave soldiers at the front. A meeting was held here on Tuesday last, and the following ladies were elected to act:— President, Mrs. II. J. Earle; Treasurer, Mrs. (Kev.) Wilson; Secretary, Mrs. II. J. Lind. We are sorry to admit that Fogo was very backward in showing enthusiasm at the relief of Kimberley and Ladysmith. 44 Not a gun was heard.”
