The EveningTHE very mild and beautiful win. ter has nearly passed away, and here we are now in the middleof March. No sign of any seals up to date, but we are in hopes of having a chance to “ grease our ropes” yet. All we want Is a few days* in winds.NOTHING of any importance has occurred here the winter. Hut stay! rumour has just reached us that a young man—Freake—of41 blood-thirsty”—fame attempted to clear out Fogo Harbor with a sealing gun. The desperado has been arrested, and without any 44 pressing*’ from Magistrate Malcolm has been induced to spend the next .'30 days as a guest of Her Majesty's jailor.A SPLENDID concert was given in the S. U. F. Hall the latter part of February. Without any exaggeration, we can safely say it was one of the finest entertainments held here for a long time. Space would not permit me to mention the different actors and the way the several parts were played, but each one was up to the mark. Special mention must be made of Mr. H. J. Earle and his sons. Mr. Earle has beeu untiring in bringing this concert to a success. The sum of #35, which was collected, will be devoted to the erection of a Parish Hall for Fogo. We are always pleased to see Mr. F. C. Earle, of Change Islands, on the platform, and it is safe to say 44 SkipperCharlie” was the comedian of the even-iug‘ ________THE ladies of Fogo have received a communication from Lady McCallum in re the collecting of money for the purpose of making clothes, etc., for our brave soldiers at the front. A meeting was held here on Tuesday last, and the following ladies were elected to act:— President, Mrs. II. J. Earle; Treasurer, Mrs. (Kev.) Wilson; Secretary, Mrs. H. J. Lind. We are sorry to admit thatFogo was very backward in showing enthusiasm at the relief of Kimberley and Ladysmith. 44 Not a gun was heard.”WE hope some of our young friends will44 liven up*’ and get tho e old cannon under way and make the hills re-echo the sounds of patriotism and loyalty on the—we feel sure—not far off day that the British soldiers shall march triumphantly into Pretoria. Where are our young men who sang so lustily ar.d proudly, %4 Soldiers of the Queen” and 44 Pule Brittania”? Come, boys, don't be backward. Get your guns and show everybody that if you are not 44 soldiers of the Queen,” you are at least true subjects of the Queen.Fogo, March 14, 1D00.iiTin 1ITT1TTflTn i T flO
