Congratulated Manitoba. The speaker first congratulated Manitoba on being the first Canadian province to grant the women their right of citizenship. She said the women of the old country looked to this province with gratitude for the example it had set, an example which she expected they would not be far behind in following. Mrs. Pankhurst came to this city in the interests of Serbian relief, but before touching on her subject she gave a very concise and very interesting review of the general war situation. She was very emphatic in expression of her belief that the nation as a whole had not yet realized the true meaning of the present war, not knowing the meaning of invasion as the other countries who are taking part in it, did. This war was unlike any other since the foundation of the Empire. Never had they to face an enemy so determined and well prepared. She was filled with great an-iety for those noble nations, Belgium and Serbia, who were suffering a terrible martyrdom for our sake. It isof human justice and liberty. “We are in this war to preserve our ideal of Christian civilization,” she said, “and if we lose this war, then good bye to all ideals of liberty and free dom; our liberties will entirely disappear, and we will become a province of the German Empire.” She stated that unless this war was brought to a glorious end in favor of th- Allies, it would mean that our children would have to fight the matter out in the next generation.Mrs. Pankhurst than asked that her audience denote their sympathy with the Serbian people by generously responding to a collection, that she asked should be taken at the conclusion of her remarks, and to consider the pledge cards which were passed around by her secretaryMrs. Donald McEwen spoke a few well-chosen words, voicing tb.i senti ments of appreciation the citizens of Brandon felt towards the speaker, following the meeting. Mr. A. Mc-Isaac sang an appropriate recruiting song which was well received.
