Lucy Hicks, Tiring Of Jail, Writes LettersLucy Hicks, who has served six days of a 350 day sentence, likes the county jail less and less the longer she is there. One of her diversions is her correspondence. Judge Frank B. Pettis, who sentenced the prominent colored woman, receives a lengthy letter daily. While the court refused to reveal the contents of the missives, hizoner admitted Mrs. Lucy is asking out. When the convicted bootlegger was first jailed she telephoned to Judge Pettis daily and attempted to hold long conversations with him. For some reason not announced, the jail officials then denied her the free and continued use of the telephone. The letters followed.
