THE WINNIPEG TRIBUNE, Thurs , March 19, 1964 . c . . / i ____Soroptimist club award given to Russell GreeneRussell Greene of Sisler High School was the recipient of a special award Tuesday at the meeting of Soroptimist Club of Winnipeg.The young student received the club’s Soroptimist Foundation Citizenship Award and $50 from president Miss Alison Thompson.Miss Lillian Aylsworth, in introducing the award winner, noted that Russell, now in Grade 12, had a sound record of accomplishment in studies, had won numerous scholastic awards and was active in community projects. He is organist at St. Jude’s Anglican church, assistant director of the school’s forthcoming production of My Fair Lady, is interested in a variety of studies such as aerodynamics, and hopes to go into architecture with a view to teaching.The Soroptimist award is intended to pay tribute to “young people today, who are making a real contribution in manv ways,” Miss Aylsworth said. Winners are judged on school accomplishment, qualities of leadership, service to community, and vision.One student from each of the city’s high schools submitted an essay for the competition.
