WZLE bows out of tourney, but will air prep athleticsRadio station WZLE {104.9 FM) is not scheduled to cover further high school tournament games due to its new country western music formal. However, the station plans to continue covering high school sports. The station has had a good audience with its sports events covered by Bruce Johnson, who also has had apopular “Coaches Corner” programinvolving weekly interviews with eight area coaches.The Lora in-based station began its country-western format from 7 p.m. to midnight Monday with Scott Miller, who was recently fired by WOBL. We had adecision to make,” explains WZLEgeneral manager Gene Sens. We’re trying to pick up a country western audience. We were country-western when we started. We had Scott on for the firsttime last (Monday) night and he had over 300 phone calls. He’s very popular. Wo felt it wasn’t fair to put him on one night and then take him off the next.”Sens emphasized that WZLE would continue to serve the community with its sports coverage. We’re through with basketball until next season, he says. It’s hard to be all things to all people We broadcast some 35 basketball games last season. We're going to continue with sports btil ! can't tell you how until September.Sens admits his station may elect to broadcast Admiral King games should the Admirals win the Kent State Regional and make it to the slate tournament “If Admiral King goes to the state tournament, we’ll have to reappraise our situation, he says.
