Joseph Alessi III, 16, tied with Elizabeth Anderson, a cellist from Sacramento, in the Stillman-Kelley Scholarship award auditions held in San Francisco recently — under direction of the California Northern District of the National Federation of Music Clubs.The two young musicians will now compete for the regional award of $1 .-000.Alessi, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Alessi Jr. of San Rafael, attends Terra Linda High School. He has won other awards, including an award from the Marin Music Chest given in June. 1975, a secondP fplace in the Young Musicians Award at the 1974 Inverness Musical Festival, an invitation to play at the Monterey Jazz Festival in 1975, and an opportunity to play with the Armed Forces Bicentennial Band at the Marin Memorial Veterans Auditorium in a concert in October 1975.Alessi was on£ of four California musicians se lected to piay in the National Honor Band, which gave performances in Atlantic City and at the Kennedy Center in Washington. D.C, last weekendAlessi is from a musical family. His father, a trumpet player, teaches music at San Francisco City College and California State University, San Francisco His mother. Maria Alessi, sang with the Metropolitan Opera Company before her marriage.
