tstarting at $5,000, with special privi-The 150th birthday of the foundingof New Braunfels, March 21,1845, isless than thirteen months away andalready the Sesquicentennial Commission, sponsored by the Greater NewBraunfels Chamber of Commerce, is in “full-swing.” In fact, over4,000 lettershave been mailed out to targeted industries, small businesses, professionals, corporations, clubs and organizations, and individuals to raise funds for the week-long Sesquicentennial celebration. “Our goal is to raise $150,000 for the Sesquicentennial celebration,”stated Dennis Heitkamp, vice chair of tk*£MquMMtennial Finance Committee. Heitkamp added, “We encourage all citizens of New Braunfels to get involved with this fund-raising effort.” The commission, which is planningnumerous special events, is sanctionedby the City of New Braunfels and has grown to over 300 members. Sesquicentennial celebrations will “kick off’ beginning with a prayer breakfest onMarch 21,1995, and other events will begin April 14 and will run through April 23. “A major date will be Saturday, April 22, with activities such as a large parade, a barbecue lunch, entertainment during the day, and fireworks will conclude in the evening - all taking plaoe in Landa Park, stated Heitkamp. Good Friday and Easter Sunday religious services are also planned as wellas a trail ride from Indianola (the site of foe first landing of German immigrants to Texas).The Finance Committee, which is made up of professionals, industryleaders, small business owners, and individuals, have designed several categories for financial contributions. A citizen of New Braunfels may wish to join as an Ansiedler (Settler) for $150 per member. With this membership, an individual will receive a listing in foe Sesquicentennial program, a certificate to commemorate the Sesquicentennial year, and a special souvenirname badge to wear to all Sesquicentennial sanctioned events. Others may wish to join the Gruender Verein (Founders Club) for $300 per person. By joining in this category, a personwill see the same benefits as the%Ansiedler membership, plus their name will be on a plaque on permanent display, free admission to all official Sesquicentennial sanctioned events and an attractive VIP name badge.For those individuals who would like to memorialize one of their deceased friends or family members, a special memorial group will be available for $150. The deceased family members (limit to two per membership) will have their names memorialized on a plaque that will be on permanent display. Their names will also be printed in the Sesquicentennial program along with the contributor of the memorial.
