Main • 364-3667Diamond Headquarters in Utahwho opposed King Henry Vlil’s break from the Roman Catholic Church when he divorced his queen and married Anne Bolyn.Audiences won’t remember the picture for its elaborate settings or spectacular scenes, but it would be difficult for them to forget the human qualities of its historical characters — the nobility, the clergymen and the commoners — who are made to practically live and breathe in the film, under the direction of Oscar nominee Fred Zin-nemann.Stresses ImpactImpact of dramatic moments in the film is intensified by concentration of the camera on the faces of the actors.Paul Scofield, nominated for the best actor award, is a magnificent and steadfast Sir Thomas More. The audiencebecomes well acquainted with his face as the picture progresses. That face is full of tolerance, resignation and an obsession for justice. Its lines deepen with his suffering.The screenplay, written byOscar nominee Robert Bolt, isintricate in weaving the wit and wisdom of Sir Thomas into the dialogue. He is portrayed as a brilliant lawyer whose quick wit would never allow him to lose an argument or take a back seat at telling droll tales.Plays Lady AliceWendy Hiller, nominated for best actress, plays Lady Alice, the plump, plain wife of Sir Thomas. She could not understand why he forsook his position because of his convictions.Robert Shaw is a brash and -commanding, but slender,Henry VIII. With his brightred hair and clear blue eyes, he is as handsome as the heavy gold costumes hewears.The film is nominated forOscars for best costume de-♦sign and best cinematography in a color picture.Light MomentsDespite the serious subject matter, “A Man For All. Seasons” has its light moments. Much of its humor lies in the 1 speeches of people trying torationalize their own shortcomings especially after Sir Thomas has deftly pointed them out.The New York Film Critics 1 honored-“A Man For All Seasons” with awards for best motion picture, best actor, best director and best screen writer for 1966.
