FAIRFIELD IOWA BAND TO GIVE CONCERT MARCH 28This is a new picture of the Fairfie^- Iowa band, the first to be made of this crae* organization under its new director, Prof. Fred . Jeweil. Some o fthe faces of the older -men are missing—but a service flag to be raised on the occasion of the band concert to be given on Thursday night, March 28, at the high school auditorium, as a band and Red Cross benefit, will bear stars to show that nine of the boys are in the service of their country. This concert is to be a big event; the bandis putting forth unusual effort at rehearsals in preparation for it and it will undoubtedly be the finest concert ever given by a local band. While the membership has suffered because of the war. som fine new talent has been secured. Arthur Myers, the Belgian cornet soloist whose playing was a big feature of the band concerts for many years, is to be here for the concert and it is said ha may remain.Under the direction of Prof. Jewell the band is making wonderful progress and will give Fairfield a class of concerts this year it has never been able to give before. Plans are incomplete as yet but it is likely the band will be augmented again this year by a strong vocal quartet. And then, there’s the ladies’ band which may be organized a bitlater on—but we’ve been asked not say anything about that yet.The Fairfield Iowa band is an organization of which the whole community is extremely proud for its past performances, but there is a feeling, justified by recent concerts and by the expressions of the members themselves, that the band is going to set a new high mark in musical ability this season.Following is the band membership and the instruments played:CONDUCTOR—Fred Jewell.CORNETS—Joe Roth.
