At sunrise all tin*hells were rung ; the Engine and lt;thcrpublic buildings, the shipping in the harbor,Arc. hid flags waving from them. Flagsand banners were hung across the principalstreets. At noon a salute was fired fromFort Adams, and hv our ancient and honorable Artillery, who marched through theprincipal streets, under the command ofCol Burroughs. In the afternoon, Atpiidneck Ilose Company, Capt. Stevens, wereout on parade, with their Ilo e Cart decorated hv the American ll ag.At the close of the day, the merry bellgave notice that the sun-light bad disappeared and the time for the torch-light andfire-works display was at hand. Noaoonerhad twilight appeared than the streets werethronged with people of every age. Thamesstreet was filled with a pretty compact massof living beings. The Court House, Tow nHall, Case's Building, \lt;trs OlTicc, Svvin-burn’s Block, and a large number of otherbuildings and stores were brilliantly illuminated ; while a number of beautiful lanterns, transparencies A c. were bung acrossthe streets m every direction. Abouto’clock, II pe Engine Company No. 4, (theTigers) Capt. Sherman, with full ranks.made their appearance—inarching throughthe streets with their torches attracted muchattention. Next came Protection Companv No .*, (the Homy Beef) Capt. Tisdale,escorting No. ‘J Engine Company (Roughi»V Heady) (’apt. Allman, who were theirguests flt;r the evening. No. was preceded by the F. S. Band, and with theirfancy drills, blue lights, A c. gained uniicrsal applause. The members of No. ‘2wore red shirts and black pants.-n strongerset of rncn we have seldom seen. Theirnew machine was neallv dressed with (lowers and wreaths.About 10 o’clock the two companieswith a number of invited guests, sat downto a collation prepared by Mr. Isaac KSpooner, at the Touro St. House ;—w hichwas altogether above the ordinary standardof festivals of this description, both as regards the variety of the viands and the spirit of social enjoyment that prevailed amongthe assembly throughout. After a few appropriate remarks by the Foreman of Protection Company, the contents of the hillof fare w as “ played into” in the most brotherly manner, and the way mine host's fatoysters, tongue and pies, disappeared, wasmuch to Ins satisfaction no doubt.
