Proof of its reputation was illustrated when Sears Roebuck Co. awarded Oxford its Excellence Award for Performance and Quality on five different occasions. Sears had some 20,000 suppliers, and only a handful qualified for the award, according to knowledgeable sources.Oxford’s Dinnerware Div. was liquidated in 1961 and the firm concentrated on ceramic wall tile.The company in 1963 became a part of the Mosaic Tile Co., formerly located at Zanesville. In 1968, the Mosaic Tile Co. was sold to the Marmon Group, of Chicago, 111.Oxford Tile was retained by the Marmon Group, while the remairider of the Mosaic Co. plants were disposed of.With Oxford’s closing Friday, the era ended.
