'Flowers from Lidice' Rates 'Superior' MarkHandley’s One-Act Play received a rating of Superior at the Commonwealth District One-Act Play Festival held at Stonewall Jackson Senior High School in Manassas Saturday.The play, “Flowers for Lidice” written by Mario Fratti was directed by Miss Mary Ann Morgan, drama teacher at Handley. The play concerned a group of young Polish girls interned in a concentration camp in Germany during World War n. The emotional impact of the play was superbly enacted by Beth Sencindiver, Robin Mull, Linda Vaught, Kathy Slonaker, Laura Boxwell, and Lauve Steenhuisen. Kim Lytton took the part of the young son of the German Commandant.The critic-judge for the festival was Mr. James Hobson, an actorai me Hayloft Dinner Theater in Manassas. His experience is broad and varied. He has appeared on Broadway in “Fiddler on the Roof”, “Most Happy Fellow” and “Lovely Ladies, Kind Gentleman”. An equity actor, he has also appeared in many Stock Company performances.In his critique of Handley’s play, Mr. Hobson stated: “I cannot find much wrong with this play,. The direction is excellent and the ensemble effect outstanding.”Miss Morgan stated, “The enthusiasm and hard work of the cast members has made this play»*a success.“Flowers from Lidice” is now eligible to be performed at the regional competition.
