J I The Smeibport Lodge timd out about 35 I strong and a most enjoyable evening was spent I with the Clermont fraters The visitors made t the Bayer House headquarters anti! Lodge j hour, and the genial hosts of that popular him- j fcelry, Messrs Boyd 4 Smith, left nothing un- j done that would in any way eentribate to the J comfort of ttotf guests The Slhetbport dele J gallon arrived in Clermont shortly before seven o'clock, and were furnished with an eie gant supper by the Messrs Boyd 4Smith notwithstanding the fact that the vis- jitors arrived in Clermont somewhat ahead of I schedule tune which goes to show to at the j ever alert landlords of the Bayer House are t never caught a napping but are at all times prepared to welcome tbeir triends in a royal j manner whenever they swoop down upon them I in a rather unexpected manner. After regal- J ing the inner man, the visitors repaired to the j hall of Clermont Lodge, where they found the I Lodge in session and up to tteir ears in bosi I ness, but being genuine Odd Fellows they lost l no time in extending a hearty welcome to their I visitor# and made them feel at home from the I very first. After the regular business bad J been gone through with, the regular officers of J the lodge vacated their t hairs, and the degree team of bmethport Lodge exemplified in a veiy j satisfactory roaoL»r the First and Second De- 1 grees of Odd Fellowship to two candidates It I was nearly eleven o'clock when the work was J completed, and Fast Grand J, H. Tate, who J acted as master of ceremonies for Clermont I Lodge, called on some of the visiting brothers I for remat ks. After a few minutes had been devoted to speech making. Brother Tate an I nounced that the most important thing on the j program was yet to follow and that the closing J ceremonies would take place at the Bayer House A Iter the closing exercises at the Lodge Boom, the Clermont Lodge escorted their visitors to th% Bayer House, and after a tew meaner la wait they were conducted into the j * spacious dining room of that |opuJar hotel I where one of the finest banquets was in wait- I mg for the hungry multitude that the writer I has ever bad the pleasure of sitting do wo to. jIt seemed as n Messrs. Boyd 4 Smith fairly out* I done themseives on this occasion The banquet I table extended the whole length of the large J dining room and if any delicacy was lacking I that was calculated to tickle the palate it was | owing only to the fact that it was out of season, j The table# were arranged in a manner that was J mo«t pie#ting to the eye, and every want of the J guests of the evening was looked after m a j way that reflected great credit on the hosts, who neglected not a single opportunity to I make their guests more than welcome It is J the unanimous sentiment of Hmethpoft Lodge J that theywere never more royally entertained than they were on this occasion, and we are j but voicing the unofficial sentiment of the j Lodge when we say that Messrs. Boyd A Smith should receive in conjunction with Clermont J Lodge a hearty vote of thanks for the able and I complete manner in which they performed their assigned duty last Saturday night jThe visiting iraters all arrived at their J respective home# sate and sound at a reason* hie hour, more than satisfied with the recep I tion they received at the hands of their hosts, I and folly impressed that they have got to he up J and doing if they expect to keep pace with their entertainers of last Saturday night. jAna in this connection it will not be out of place to state that these visitations are conduc Ilive of much benefit to the order, and the JDfewerRAT suggests that a visit be paid to Fort Allegany lodge at an early date.
