Notes provide trail of bread crumbs to past‘Scuse me, but I must clean off my desk and clean out my notes. You know, the notes I’ve written down from places I’ve been since I’ve been writing articles for the Post Register. So here goes...Example of notes: There was a couple of folks that collected so many aluminum cans that the money they had taken in from the sales was invested in a bull. Did they give the bull a name, you ask? Of course, they named him “Aluminum.”Cleaning out the frig might prove to be a chore if one cannot find some way to laugh about the process. All the dainty forgotten leftovers wereDorothy Taylorreferred to as “Shrunken Heads.” (Courtesy of Mary Blackwell, longtime ago.)On a trip to Abilene son number one began laughing. He was reading a bumper sticker on the car ahead. When he had our attention we read, “I used up all my sick days so I called in dead.”“To those of you who are strong and healthy the opportunity to playgames is a priceless gift. Learn to play them well, play clean and hard, win if you can, and if you lose, lose like a sportsman.” (Courtesy of Who Knows!)In a recent discussion of El Nino one man said, “It’s amazing, some people are catching fish they’ve never seen before.” And this was the answer: “That’s strange! Every fish I’ve ever caught I’d never seen before.”Count your life by smiles not tears, and count your age by friends, not years. (Courtesy of Who Knows.)Enough of the silliness you say...do I relate to any of this stuff? Of course. Recalling leftovers wasunheard of in my childhood days. Everything that was placed on the table was eaten up by some hungry folks. Besides, the cats and the dog needed something. The really old ice box would run out of bought ice before the trip to town was made again. In those early days we had a lot of fruit, lots of cornbread, plenty of milk, the peanut butter that had to be stirred due to the oil separating and settling on top, and we were grateful for fresh vegetables from the garden. And thanks for listening. I still need to clean my desk.Psalms 25:21 “Let integrity and uprightness preserve me; for I wait on thee.”
