Feb. 24, at Clarion. The students boarded the bus Saturday morning at the junior high. They appeared to be sitting on pina and needles rather than the bus seats. This extra pressure was attributed to the lack of rehearsal time because of snowvacation. , .The ab.sense of practice sessions didn’t seem to alfect tne students performances. Nineteen of the 24 selections received I ratings and will advance to Individual State Contest which willbe held at Sioux City March 17. „It seems the more tension in the air the better we do,commented one speech participant. The events ranged from Radio News Broadcast mg toHumorous Acting.Literary Program - Pam Christensen- 1, Arden Epply *1, and Paula Petras-1.Expository Address - Mary Kay Un-demann - I.Interpretive Prose - Sheryl Caryl -i.Kim Christensen -1, and Beth Lonning- I.Interpretive Poetry - Janet Blakestad -I, Mary Kay Lindemann - I, and Betty Lu Waliey -I.Story telling - Nancy Blakestad - II. Not only is the roduction itself going to be nore elaborate and lengthy han before, but the proceeds vill go solely to the Muscular Jystrophy Foundation, and a lance will follow the 70ninute show.If nothing else, the Kiss ;how will provide a good fund aising event for a good ause. But there is something •Ise. The show will reveal anncredible amount of work and ■ffort, on the part of the group nembers, that is remarkable crazy too, maybe. but lefinitely remarkable), Fo •ain insight into the Kiss Concert” and conception of he idea, I talked to Casey Ace Frehley) Albertson. When asked how the Kiss dea came about, Casey said hat it began in 1978 when Joe i’eiker, Casey, Bedo Long, tnd a few others were on their vay to the Jerry Lewis relethon Center in Des domes. At that time, Joe ’elker made a comment to the ;ffect, “Wouldn’t it be neat if ve did a Kiss concert for the Christmas talent show! This shouldn't be a surprise, loe does not lack imagina-ion)They “kicked” the ideairound until mid-September, ind then Casey, Joe and Bedo vent to Sioux City and boughthe make up and black tights reeded for costumes. One and i half months later. Casey regan making the Paul Stanley costume. Casey sneither made the Ace Frehley ;ostume because as Casey put t, “I couldn’t quite figure hat one out! ’' Soon the others were constructed- A problem leveloped at that point The rays didn't have the boots. Kiss without the high boots,is like Mick dagger without a mouth .)Fortunately. Casey found out about Dave Morgan from Kagle Grove who had the Kiss boots and wigs. Apparently. Morgan had used them to win costume contests. The boots and wigs were then loaned to the group. So, the costumes were then complete - chains, heels and all.Another problem existed, however. The fourth group member was in absentia. Originally, Joe and Casey were Gene Simmons and Ace Frehley, respectively, and Bedo was Paul Stanley. Someone was needed yet to portray Peter Criss. Tom Law was asked to join the group and eagerly accepted. Tom preferred the Stanley role, so Bedo moved to the drums and Criss. This arrangement proved to be great for the group, as presently, roles seem realistic and cast well-The rest of the items needed were more easily obtained. Because the Albertson family is musicallyinclined, the “band's” instruments and rehearsal area were already available at the Albertson home- Casey’s brothers provided services also. Shane Albertson did and will do the integral job of make-up for the guys, and Mike, “the main man, handled all the wiring tasks and the props. The rehearsals at Casey's residence were done four days a week: Monday. Tuesday. Wednesday and Sunday, leach lasting approximately one hour) for a monthWell all of that business was prior tlt; the December Christmas Show. Now. with the benefit taken into consideration, the show has been lengthened anti has become more complex. for instance, the four members1978.have bought or acquired newwigs and boots. I felker s boots are being cast from a mold.) New attractions will be added on the stage, all new props are being used, and many lights, switches, sockets and *180 feet of new wiring are being implemented. (All were purchased at the groups expense!. The guys made a trip to South Dakota to pick up some of these new props, which will be revealed in grand fashion on the ninth. Also appearing at the Concert” will be the warm-up group, the BLUES BROTHERS. otherwiseknown as Roger Conlon and Jeff Dreyer. Dreyer will be portraying the intrepid John Belushi; Bird will take the role of Dan Ackroyd. “Security guards will be posted for the protection of the group, althuught I'm not sure whom they're being protected from (possibly some of Aerosmith fans/1The show has been promoted in Gilmore City, Eagle Grove. Fort Dodge, and Gold field besides this area. Ideally, therefore, the event should be sold out. A photo session will be held at 7:30 p.m. around the boy's locker room for those Kiss fanatics who wish to pose with the group. For the KISS fans, the show promises a great deal of entertainment for a mere dollar. Joe. Bedo, Casey and Tom have very successfully captured the outrageous showmanship of KISS. In other words, this concert is in no way comparable to the Von Trapp or Osmond FamilySingers. After seeing the ‘ Tiler's show. the only iioticible ditterences from the real thing is that KISS plugs their guitars in. and Gene Simmons probably ult;e.s real blood in the act. whereas Joe uses. well, um then againKiss Mania * The BIues BrothersMarcIlt; 9rh 8:00 p.w.• A MuscuUn DysTRophy BiniRt •HtiMboldT Hiqh School Gymnasium
