THE LAFAYETTE, Friday, March 3, 1967 ‘Woody’s Truck Stop'Fine Arts Blues Concert To Be Given TomorrowThe Pine Arts Society id sponsoring “Woody’s Truck Stop tomorrow afternoon, March 4, 1967, in concert from 2 to 4 p.m.Held in conunction with Delta Kappa Epsilon, the concert will take place in the main dining room of Marquis Hall and is free to F.A.S. members. Admission is $1 to all other?.The Truck Stop is a blues/rock group well known in the Philadelphia and Boston areas for its interpretations of Puul Butterfield, Junior WeHcGrant, FPA Speaker To Talk Tues.James A. Grant, the information officer of the Information Service of South Africa will address the Foreign Policy Association of the Delaware Valley on Tuesday at 8 p.m. in Marquis Hall.Grant, a fourth - generation South African from the capital city of Pretoria, will speak on the subject “The Case for Apartheid.’’Grant graduated from the University of Pretoria where he majored in the Afrikana and English languages. He worked as a translator and then went to the Netherlands aa a radio ream! other Chicago type blues groups. Formed in early 1966, they are now-writing and performing much of thoir own material along the blues/rock line, and are releasing a record within a month-•Broadside’ Say. . .The following is a quote from Peter Stampfel in the Jan. 4, 1967 issue cf Broadside magazine (Mr. Stampfel is one half of the Holy Modal Rounders and a sometime member of the famed Fugs):‘There’s been talk about which blues band will crack on a pop level first. A local contender is WOODY’S TRUCK STOP, spawned in Philadelphia and recently migrated to Cambridge. They arc »till crystallizing into their final form . . . The Truck Stop has a fine hard blues sound and a sense of pretty. These two factors are seldom coexistent. Their basis is in blues, but I have no idea where they’ll end up. They're not the kind of group that’s going to stay in one place very long.Played A« Lehigh, Brendei. . . .They recently held extremely successful engagements at Lehigh and Brandeis Universities, and the Swarthmore Rock Festival, where they played with San Francisco's famous Jefferson Airplane group. The Truck Slop has also performed with the Byids in concert at the Lambertvilie Folk Festival. They appear regularly at Penn, Temple, the 2nd Fret, the Underground Discotheque, and other colleges and n:ght spots in the Philadelphia area.
