It has not only participated in state chorus tours but has appeared in Hawaii. Washington. DC.. Hollywood Bowl. Toronto. Canada. Rose Festival. Portland. Ore and also in Europe Locally the chorus ha;- performed on Anderson Today, with *Jo McCarty ofCabletelevision. local churches, the Anderson Council of Women, the Anderson Fine Arts Festival, nursing homes and numerous clubs Sonya has been director of the MaDe' Chorale for 11 years. She also has directed the Youth Choir and Cherub Choir at the First Presbyterian Church for the past 10 years While at Purdue. Sonya was student director of Purduettes (Girls Choralgroup! and music director of Kappa Kappa Gamma, her sorority.She began the study of piano as a child and continued her work toward a musical career at DePauw University later entering Purdue University where she studied special education along with music.For the pas) five years she hasarranged the musical program at the annual fall extravaganza, the Fine Arts Festival She is past president oi Psi lota Xi sorority and of the Art Club of Anderson. She also expresses her talen ts in membership of the Evening Musicale and is vice president of the PEO Sisterhood, recently organized inAnderson.In addition to her musical accom plishments she has been active during the Summer Speech and Hearing Clinic testing the speech and hearing of Head-start children. She also does private speech and hearing therapy.Other activities included in her fascinating life have been the judging of piano contests at the Madison County 4-H Fair and also judging at the Butler and Purdue University Spring Sing.Besides her responsibilities as a mother of three sons. .Jeffrey. 13. Drew 10 and Joel, seven, she is a substitute teacher in the various elementary schools in special education Even with all her activities she still finds time to study on her master's degree at Ball State University Her husband.
