The company’s original headquarters Service moved to its present location on Barkley were located in Virginia for a number of years.Rental UniformsIndustryIn January, 1956, Rental Uniform Service, Inc., opened its doors in Statesville. Although one of a small chain, the local branch was one of the first such companies in the entire south.Begun in October, 1949, by two brothers, James E. and William D. Waggoner in Bluefield, Va., Rental Uniform has expandedand its services have grown with penomenal speed.Rental Uniform renders a welcome service to leading automotive, commercial, and industrial concerns throughout 27 counties in supplying employes with up-to-date attractive uniforms, coveralls, shop coats, shirts and trousers,shop towels, dust mops, cloths, and mats, on a rental basis, paid partly by the company and partly by the employe himself.In conjunction with this rental service, the company operates one of this section’s most complete industrial laundry services; delivery is maintained on a regular routej ---------------—.....RENTAL UNIFORM STAFF — From left are Mrs. Treva Bass, Mrs. Joe Mayes, Herman Parlier, office manager, Mrs. Russell Lancaster, and Mrs. Barbara Stewart, office personnel at Rental Uniform Service.basis, assuring an ample supply of clean items at all times and appreciable savings on clothes as well as laundry.Rental Uniform operates on much the same basis as other companies with a product to sell. Route salesmen contact potential, as well as established customers, defining their specific service and telling how company employes benefit by it. Some of the larger companies rent as many as 100 uniforms while the smaller ones may need only eight or ten. New uniforms are provided each year with the company or the individual name embroidered on the uniform, if desired.The present location on Barkley Road has been expanded and remodeled twice since the company’s occupancy in 1961. Prior to that time, a building on Meeting Street was used for company headquarters.In November, 1967, another Rental Uniform plant was built in Florence, S. C.
