J. Jacksonre 'of Salty community and A. H. Conoley et of the Conolley community, both near 8 • thi s city, who originated the all-day l t singing back in 1895 while both were comparatively young men in their respective communities and teaching | singing school.A. J. Jackson of the Saltv comer du10niunity taught singing classes in hissection beginning in 1876 and with theu help and assistance of A. If. Conoleyis organized the Salty District conven-ie tion in 1895,e A. H, Conoley organized the firstsinging class in the Conoley eommun-rt ity in 1870, shortly after he came to ^ , this section from Georgia. g For four years prior to 1915 the or-•e ganizntion had not kept to regular ^it meetings on account of the absence•r of A. J. Jackson from the community.8 Upon his return in 1915 the organiza-e tion was again perfected and with one exception, when it was rained out, the regular all-day convention has beenheld on schedule.In addition to well filled basketsbrought by the participants and visitors, Thorndale prepared plenty of fin(. barbecue, coffee and other eatablesand some 1500 persons enjoyed thefine dinner spread in a convenientwarehouse here*.)Thorndale did herself proud in theentertainment of visitors here Sunday.The arrangement committee, composedlt;!lt;of Messrs. Geo. Peebles, A. R. Ram-seur and Jack Clement had everything in tip-top shape for the reception and comfort of visitors.The basket committee, composed of Mesdames Jones Clement and J. P. Reaves and Miss Emma Sailer did valiant work throughout the city and as a result the tables were loadedtc(good things to eat at the noon hourspread.I J. P. Reaves, champion coffee maker, and John Goff superintended thetables and had evervthing in readinessfor the big crowd which swarme * around the feast.! J. V. Echols and Jack Clement composing the publicity committee sent out invitations over the county andassisted materially in caring for thevisitors.The splendid barbecue served at the spread was pronounced the best ever and much credit for this was heapediupon Edgar Sanders, J. P. Reaves,Jim Worley and J. E. McWilliamswho were assisted by big Bill Harris,working from 5 o’clock Sunday morning until the noon hour to have the meats prepared for the luncheon. Visitor- frorn over the county, andat least two from other States werein attendance upon the sing-song, and ail were profuse in their praise of the association and the old time songswhich were sung. These included“Over in the Glory Land,” “Not Built with Hands,” “Firm Foundation,ft*4Jesus for Me” and many other oldtime hymns that are seldom heard inpresent day singing.At the afternoon session A. J. Jack-! son was re-elected president of theassociation for the coming year andTracy was awarded the next meetingwhich is to be held on Sunday, May21st to which every one is cordially in-vi ted.
