Carl Melton Dies SaturdayCarl FJ. Melton, HO, lifelong resident of Collin County and prominent businessman, civic leader and church layman, passed away Saturday at 7:30 a. m. in Wysong Hospital. He had been in failing health for sometime.Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the First Christian Church, Rev. Robert Hooks, officiating. Interment will be in Pecan Grove Cemetery, Harris-Horn Funeral Home directim’,.Active pallbearers are: Clifford Byrd, Worley Smith, Louis Miller, Nip Justice, J. M Whisenant and Dr. Charles McKissick.Honorary pallbearers are Elders of the First Christian church and members of the Men’s Bible Class of ttie church.Born in Allen, January G, 1890, he was the son of John T. and Nancy C. Sheshane Melton, members of pioneer families of the county. He married Sallie Cate who preceded him in death. He resided at 304 Paula Road, at the time of his death. Mr. Melton liad been active in the F irst Christian Church most of his life, being an Elder and Trustee, and taught tht Men’s Bible Class for many years. He was a retired real estate broker, past president and director of the Federal l and Bank, founding dir** tor of Camp Underwood at Athens, served on the City Council on different occasions as Commissioner and Councilman; past director of the Collin County Hospital Board of Governors; member of St. John’s Masonic lodge; 32nd degree Mason and member of the Scottish Rites bodies in Dallas, and member of the Lions Club.Surviving are two sons, Dr. carl E. Melton Jr. of Norman, Okla.; David (Bud) Melton of McKinney; daughter, Mrs. Kathryn O’Dell of Fort Worth; sister, Mrs. L. R. Gibson of Dallas, and seven grandchildren.
