It had gained such headway that the heroic efforts made to save the house were vain. A portion of the contents were saved, but what was in the cellar was mostly lost. The Bummer kitchen alone remains. One sad feature of the lire was the serious illness of Mrs. J. and her daughter Jessie, both of whom were down with measles, and the eldest just recovering. Kind neighbors hastened to the rescue and soon had the sick ones safely housed, and Mr. J. sayB if they come safely through he still has much to be thankful for. There was 81,000 insurance on the property.Miss Mary Cruzen gave a party to about Jo of her young friends one evening last week.Madison school closed last Friday, with its usual declamations, big dinner and good time.The Harvey Brothers sold a car-load of fat cattle which go to Chicago this week.Homer Kent gives possession this week.The Misses Cook returned to their home the iirst of the week.Have Dilley and family, of Lacey, were at the bedside of his dying father, the venerable Jacob Dillev, of this place.
