George M. HomerFuneral forGeorge M.Horner, 70, was to be 10 a.m. today at Iiakin Wesleyan Church, with the Rev. Dennis Engle officiating. Burial will be in Iiakin CemeteryMr. Horner died Thursday, June 23, 2005, at his home in Lakin.He was born Jan. 3, 1935, in rural Stevens County, to Oran and Ruby Blanche Moser Horner. The family moved to Lakin when he was a young child and he attended school there, graduating from Iiakin High School in 1953. He graduat ed from Colorado Springs Bible College in 1956.He and Darlene Bowen Horner were married in 1955 in Raton, N.M.Mr. Horner spent four years in the U.S. Air Force, serving in England and at several bases in the United States as a small arms gun smith. After his discharge from the service in 1960, he worked at several places in Lakin before going to work for the Kearny County Road Department as a heavy equipment operator for 30 years, retiring in 2000.He was a charter member of Pilgrim Holiness Church of Iiakin, now the Wesleyan Church. Dedicated to his church, he served on the church board for 40 years, acted as an usher and greeter, enjoyed working with young people and was Sunday School Teacher of the Year in 1985. He enjoyed traveling, geology and coin collecting, and his greatest enjoyment was his church and his familyIn addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, David and Tim Horner, both of Lakin, and Paul Horner of Cannelton, Ind.; two daughters, Ruby Ivey of Garden City, and Irma Kahre of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Ann Horner of Hugoton; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a granddaughter, Jenifer Michele Horner.Condolences may be sent to garnandfli@sbcglobal.net.
