History will back tip this statement and tkaily happenings are added proof.A week ago, there were u lot of people in Washington C. H. who had never seen or even heard of these minature golf courses that are so taking the fun-loving American public by storm. A week | hence there will be two of them in operation here . One i“ to be on | Clinton avenue and the other right on the very edge of the business 1 district, on S. North st just a hop skip and jump of Court xt. They were both started at virtually the same time and on the quiet, so to speak. Workmen clearing away ihe weeds and setting stakes created no great amount of curiosity until it leaked out that they were actually getting ready to put in minature golf courses. Twaa almost too good to be true.Paul Finch came here from Illinois to open the course on Clinton avenue and a local boy, Tom Murray, is going to run the one on North st. which will go under the , name of Toni's Minature Golf Course. Tho two courses are so widely separated that littl competition is expected and each is anticipating a good play as long as the weather is favorable.Little Tom comes by this amusement business naturally for his father, the lute Big Tom Murray was known from ecu. I to coast as a showman who knew tho public and what it liked in tlie way of entertainment 131k Tom got his schooling in the circus or rather circusesTom's course is being laid out under the supervision of tho schoolboy boss and his backers. The plans were all drawn on paper after weeks spent in studying other courses. It was explained. Trips were made to many layouts, near and far, and the. holes which were considered most suitable for the local course noted when eighteen of the best had been selected they were put together to make the complete 18-hile course for the North at lot. The course as shown on paper plans will offer plenty of rarity punctuated with hazards which will call for trick shooting There will be tunnel shots and jumps but at present none of the little fairways are to be built above the ground level. Tom is going to use a preparation of his own conction on the greens and fairways for the necessary *'turf, he says.
