XPUBLIC SCHOOLSCommencement ExercisesOFHIGH SCHOOL.Essays and ^rations by the GraduatingClass. In nothing does Wooster show itsprosperity to so great a degree as by its Public Schools, and nothing among us lias been so progressive as the free to all educational advantages afforded the people. Year by year a growing interest can be seen in the citizens, rich and poor, until the schools have become a personal pride with the masses, all appreciating the material benefits derived from them to individuals and the community. The Schools are admirably managed, conducted with more satisfaction, and were never in a better condition than now. Much of this prosperity can be ascrilxjtl to the personal interest taken in them by thenOAKl) OF EDUCATION,Composed of Messrs. John Zimmerman, Jacob Frick and J. W. Baughman, who are practical men, zealous in their duty and ambitious to put our Schools in every way up to the highest standard, at the same time exercising careful economy in expenses, acting on strict business principles in all they do. Thatthey aro successful in this is attested bythe prosperous standing ot the Schools, and the gratifying fact that within two years, with less taxation, the Board has reduced the bonded indebtedness from $53,000 to $23,000, and propose in the next three years to pay off the entire debt.THE SUPHHXTENDEXT OF THE SCHOOLSIs Prof. W. S. Eversole, who has proved himself very efficient in that position during the past year. He is a graduateof the Ohio University, Athens, and ateacher by profession and practice. For five years he was Superintendent of the Union Schools of Marion, Ohio, from whence he came to Wooster. Ilis suc-ahd business men. The occasion was well worthy this popular expression of interest, and the exercises, in some respects, regarded as surpassing the University Commencement.Promptly at eight o’clock the curtain rung up, disclosing on the stage the Superintendent and lady teachers of the High School, with an hundred pupils, the nineteen members of theGRADUATING CLASS ’OF 77In the front rank. Their names are—Mary A. Clemens,Ella J. Comer, Amanda Eokenroth, Carrie B. Fisher,Ida L. Fisher,Alico A. Hanna, Linda E« nine, Rachel Kennedy, Fannie LijnrotLEmma V. Logan,EUa F, Made,Olive J. 8cott,Etta V, Thomes. Maggie Weils,Fred. J, Blxier,John H. Brown,Lewis H. Cook,John P. Davis,Wm. F, Whitmore.Applause greeted them. At their feet, along the whole front ef the stage, near the foot lights, was a row of beautiful boquets and a border of twining evergreen. The scene was very pleasing. This Class is the largest that has yet graduated, the one of last year being next, numbering thirteen. In capacity the Class is also said to be greater than any preceding it, with excepaon, of course, of some'individual graduates in other years. In the exercises all showed good natural ability, and some evinced rare talent. The young ladies read their essays with clear articulation and well modulated voices, all being heardwith distinctness to the fartherest part of the House. This is highly complimentary to themselves and to the reading and elocutionary instruction given by Prof. Eversole. The oratorial efforts of theyoung gentlemen were quite fair. From beginning to the end the audience gaveclose and pleased attention.8' Boquets ingreat profusion were rained upon the stage as each one finished his or her part in the programme.THE EXERCISES OPENEDWith a brief and appropriate prayer by Rev. W 1). French, of St. James Episcopal Church.Anthem—“Praise Ye the Lord—by tlie School, under the musical direction of Prof N. L Glover, of Akron. Acceptably well rendered. The piano accom-paniamgnt of this, and all the singing, was very skillfully performed by Miss Ella Xold.
