(“Auld Lang Syne”) (In Mendocino Co.jThere was ti time when the only musical instrument in this country, aside from violins, was u melodeon, owned by Mrs. A. O. Carpenter, mother of Mrs. Grace Hudson. The Carpenters lived in Potter Valley.Christophers had built a fine new* 4home at the upper end of the valley and there was a candy pull in front of the big new fireplace. A group from the lower end of the valley heard about the candy pull. It was a long trip from one end of Potter to the other in those days, especially in rain, but a candy pull was an event and the Lower Potters decided to attend. Covered with blankets to protect it from the storm, the melodeon went along with Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter, Hugh and John Mewhinney and others, in the wagoni The Lower Potters provided the music and paid for the molasses and were welcome guests at the party. That old home was burned down not so very long ago.
