Safford, son of Mr. Charles P.’SafTord of 1717 Smead street, had a yen and talent for drawing* and painting and today it is his means of livelihood at Coachella Valley, Calif., where he has n ude his home for the past six years.Born in l^ogansport, Charles was. graduated from L. H. S. with the class of 1918 and if yon have a Tattler of that yearIf: may be interesting to dig it up and look over the caricatures which he sketched of the whole class. During his vacations in high school days he worked in the car department of the Pennsylvania railroad.In 1921 Charles came out of Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, N\ Y., equipped with three years training in mechanical drawing and away he went free lancing. with his ability. He was hack liome one time to work with W. E. (Bill) Grace in sketching local business men and da-shing off accompanying writeups for the PHAROS-TRIBUNE. He and Grace carried on this work successfully in several other dti^s including Kokomo, Newcastle* Lafayette and Marlon before they gave it up.At Coachella, Churlos is earnestly pursuing his life’s ambition to paint and sketch and doe* commercial work, too, to keep his purse fattened up.
