Editor Leader :-The weather is stillwet and cool and all farm work is entirely suspended. Roads are so muddy that but little hauling or traveling is going on. Business of all kinds very dull.The nominations at Cincinnati meetthe hearty approval of all true Republicans here. The ticket is regarded as one of the strongest that could possibly have been nominated by the Republican Convention. •The Republican primary meeting of Empire township to choose delegates to the Republican county convention next Tuesday, was held in the basement of the M. E. Church at three o’clock, last Huturday afternoon. Messrs Cutey, Mitchell, Winter, Fi-fer, Ferguson, Calhoun and Hendryx were elected, and Messrs. Parks, Riddle. Hall and Hallowell were chosendelegates to ibe county convention. The meeting was largely attended and more interest than usual manifested. The friends of Senator Cusey and Mr. Hamilton worked hard for their respective candidates, aud the contest was close, the former receiving the delegation by six majority. The rule by which our primary meetings areand pupils for their industry throughthe year, aud ^raisiug the improvement so plainly manifest. Prof. Payne then made a short farewell speech to the scholars of the high school, which had to be heard to he appreciated.We consider Prof. Payne as among the leading teachers of the State, aud catiuot but be sorry that the directors here failed to secure his services lor the comiug school year. He leaves a warm memory of bis success as a teacher, in ttie hearts of bis pupils, who will ever remember him gratefully aud lovingly, aud who trust that his career iu the future may be one of fame. We understand the Board at Gilman have been making streuuous efforts to engage his services for the next year, and we believe he has ac eepted the positio.
