FOR LOCAL ACTORS, ACTRESSESTheater Sets Dionysos Awards NightThe La Crosse Community Theater, Inc., will hold its fifth annual Dionysos Awards Night Monday. Outstanding talent chosen by the academy board, will be recognized in various categories of performance.Actors nominated for the awards are being narrowed to one in each category by the academy board. Mike Thompson served as director during the four previous season awards, which originated under the theater’s first director and Mrs. Sally Cremer, then president of the board and its founder in 1965.The name Dionysos, was choFIREWORKS WARNING IS ISSUED BY SHERIFFLa Crosse County Sheriff James McHugh has issued the annual warning about illegal use of fireworks.McHugh pointed out that the law in Wisconsin permits persons generally to use only sparklers, snakes,” and paper caps for capguns.He added that parents who permit their minors to buy, possess or use illegal fireworks are liable for the resulting damages and may also incur criminal law penalties.Within the past year, he noted, several persons have been injured by fireworks in the county.An exception to the law banning fireworks is their use by farmers to protect crops froming fireworks, employe carbide cannons to scare animals from crop fields. Such cannons give off a periodic loud report.McHugh said his department frequently receives complaints from other residents of an area where such cannons are being used, complaining the noise keeps them awake at night.
