O. Wakefield dismissed charges of conspiracy against six of the alleged offenders because of Insufficient evidence. Tho action was with the approval of County Attorney Ole T. Naglestad.Men against whom charges were dismissed were: Joe Shulkln, who has died since the charges were filed, Sam Shulkln, Henry Klass. T/OUls Klass, Jesse Marshall and Abo Friedman.The case dates back to September 12, 11*26, when federnl agentslraided tho Dougherty Van and Storage warehouse and seized 2,500 gallons of alcohol, valued at $50,000. Indictments of conspiracy to violatetho prohibition law were returnedagainst 12 defendants In the spring of 1928 after unsuccessful efforts at prosecution had been made In federnl court., 'Other defendants originally named In the coso wero: Tom Taggart, former commissioner of public safety, who obtained an Immediate trial and was acquitted; Detective Marcus Crost and Patrolman William Thels-on, against whom charges wore dismissed becauso of lack of evidence; Mike D. Dougherty, president of the Van and Storage company, and his two sonn, George Dougherty and William Dougherty. George Dougherty was tried by a district r1ury on a charge of conspiracy, but tho jury failed to agree. Tho two defendants against whom charges are still pending are RJ'ke D. and William Dougherty.As the caso against George Dougherty was regarded by officials as having tho most conclusive evidence of any filed agnlnst tho defendants, It now Is understood that the charges against Mike and William Dougherty eventually will be dismissed.
