SUMMER MUSICALS'High Spirits’By CONNIE WILLIAMSGuest WriterThe 1965 Summer Musical’s season was launched with “High Spirits” (in more ways than one) this past week.Starring Agnes Moo re head as the mischievious Madame Arcati, the production is the story of a bewildered ErglLsh-man bothered by the ghosts of his two wives. The cast — headed by Miss Moorehead and Michael Evans, Iva Winters and Adrienne Angel cannot help pleasing the audience as they cavort over the stage! Miss Winters puts smiles on the faces of everyone as she flies through the air in the role of Elvira, the first ghost.Miss Moorehead is nothing short of bewitching (pun intended!) in her role of the zany medium. Her varied and odd attire brought many chuckles each time she appeared on stage. Michael Evans proved himself to be a versatile talent in his ability to change his moods from humorous to severity with complete dexterity. The real crowd pleaser in a vocal sense was Miss Angel. Her number, “Was She Prettier Than I” received the strongest applause. Combining a tremendous range and a clear, sparkling voice, Miss Angel is a lifesaver to a musical whose vocalists do not seem quite up to par.Another number well received was Iva Winter’s “ Home Sweet Heaven.” Although seemingly vocally miscast for her other numbers, her jazzy rendition of that song was great.Special recognition should be given to Peter Wolf Associates Inc. for the magnificent stage design and scenery. Also, to John Sharpe for the lively choreography that he created inseveral scenes for the entire company. All in all. . . a great show!
