By JIM SCHEELE JR.Special to the Herald-ZeitungThe Scsquicentennial Finance Committee is nearing completion on its Project “150” fund-raising efforts for the Scsquicentennial Committee. The committee, which is an arm of the Greater New Braunfels Chamber ofCommerce, started its fund-raising drive last year in hopes to raise close to SI00,000 by July 1, 1994.“So far, Project *150’ has raised $62,000 for the New Braunfels Sesqui-ccntennial,” stated Dennis Heitkamp, Scsquicentennial Finance Chair. These funds will cover costs of projects in 1995 such as a prayer breakfast on March 21 with notable speaker Dr. Bruce Larson, Co-Pastor of the Crystal Cathedral in California. On Saturday April 22 there will be a large parade followed by a barbecue on the Wurst-fcst grounds in Landa Park. A fireworks display over Landa Lake will take olace at dusk and a dance at theWursthall, sponsored by the Wurstfest Association, will culminate the evening. On Sunday April 23, a memorial plaque will be unveiled which will display a visual pictorial of the 150 years of New Braunfels.The plaque, which is approximately four feet by 12 feet, will be permanently displayed in New Braunfels. Numerous other events will take place such as religious activities, a trail ride from Indianola, concerts and dances. Contributions will also be needed to cover the cost of postage, publicity and decorations.The Sesquicentennial Finance Committee has been divided into various groups to obtain financial gifts from industries, clubs and organizations, individual memberships, memorials, small businesses, professionals and sponsorships. Numerous businesses, clubs and organizations are already involved. “We want to especially thank our Co-Sponsors of $5,000 or more from Texas Commerce Bank, theWurstfest Association, New Braunfels Rotary, and New Braunfels Noon Lions Club,” he said. Numerous companies have become Associate Sponsors of $1,500 or more from the New Braunfels New Car Dealers, Victoria Bank Trust, and Lafarge Corporation.” A large number of people have already become members of the Gru-ender Verein (Founders) Club for $300. By joining in this category, individuals will have their names listed on a plaque which will be on permanent display, their names listed in the Sesquicentennial program, a certificate, and an attractive VIP name-badge which will admit them free to allSesquicentennial sanctioned events.Others have joined the Ansiedler (Settlers) Club for $150 per person. With this membership individuals will have their names listed in the Sesquicentennial program, receive a certificate and a special souvenir name-badge to wear to all Sesquicentennial events.“The most popular category has beenthe Memorials,” stated Heitkamp. For those individuals who would like to memorialize one of their deceased friends or family members, a special memorial group is available for $150. The deceased member(s) will have their namc(s) memorialized on a plaque that will be on permanent display and their name(s) will also be listed in the Sesquicentennial program, along with the contributors) of the memorial.If you are interested in helping to celebrate New Braunfels’ 150th birthday and wish to contribute to the Sesquioentennial Commission, please send your check to the Braunfels Foundation Trust, c/o the Greater New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce. Contributions to the Trust have tax deductible benefits and it is suggested .that you contact your financial consultant. The deadline for contributions is July 1, 1994.
