The site is a very commanding one, affording a splendid view of the city, the western part of Louisville and the bridge at the falls. It also commands a fine view of the river, the [ I far away Salt river hills, and the long and r I beautiful reach of knobs to the northwest 81 of the city.Mr. W. S. Mr. Culbertson has let the contract for the erection of the buildings and all its appurtenances to Mr. William Banes, who is also the architect. The work of grading the grounds and excavating for the foundations was commenced to-day. The brick I masons will commence work on the 1st of July.in | The building will be of brick, and will be I two stories, with basement and attic. The architecture is of modern style, and the building will be an ornament to the city. It will have a large and fine portico on the Poplar street front, and broad porches on the sides and rear. These will be substan-rsltial and beautifnl in finish. The main of I building will contain ten rooms eighteen by twenty feet in size, with room in the attic, if requii*J, for four additional large and pleasant sleeping rooms. The halls on the first and second floors will be nine feet in width, the stairs being in the er | halls. The house will be a double one in arrangement. It will be finished throughout in the most substantial,comfortable and convenient style, and every room will be supplied with gas and water. The heating arrangements and ventilation will al6o be perfect. The building will be inclosed this year and finished ready for occupancy by the middle of May, 1882. It will comfortably accommodate forty children.The erection of this proposed building and its presentation, by Mr. W. S. Culbertson, to the Orphans’ Home, is a public benefaction, and is but another evidence of the liberal and Christian spirit that animates the wealthy men of New Albany. For this noble generosity Mr. Calbertson will be honored by his fellow-citizens andall good men and women.
