It was sorta quiet until Jerome breezed into town, but the man hadn't any more than registered than things began to happen. Why even forgot all about Scharlie and the Donkey baseball game which they will put on out to Heuvelton on the 18th Inst., Friday evening to be exact, and speaking of that event, and Scharlie's quib which he tacked on to this department via a faint, want it be known here and now that the gent in the rocking chair ain't so far ahead but what can catch up with him by gosh, and if he thinks that pills and pills and pills ain’t done their work, well wager one hymn book against a marked up score book that he take one Donk and sit on the back, and we'll take another Donk and park thereon, and beat him around the bases out at Heuvelton next Friday afternoon in nuthin’ flat, the Donk being willing of course. So what'ya ‘ say, Scharlie, does youse accept the gauntlet, the challenge, the dare, the bet, or what have you? Speak up, or forever hold yer score book. A race around the bags on the Donk, and it would be great sport for a couple of alleged columnists making a couple of jackasses out of themselves for the edification, if that's the word, for the dear Heuvelton public and cash customers from the environs. Don't try to wish the challenge on Sfurph, or any of the others of the chain gang, but stick orwellt faint or dizzy, rough riding, hoot-tooting, wild westbroncho, donko, busting Elmorr ain't making an idle jest or being careless with words. Now what’ya tink of that, me boy, Scharlie?Hurray, hurrah, Yipee, Yipee! A circus is cornin' to town.
