WJW changes its name, place on dialCLEVELAND (AP) - Radio station WJW, which began broadcasting in 1943, has a new location on the radio dial and has assumed different call letters as part of a major change in the Cleveland radio market.The change Tuesday sent much of the staff of WJW, 850 on the AM dial, to 1100 on the dial as WWWE. The change resulted from the purchase of WWWE and WDOK-FM by Lake Erie Radio Co.The 850 slot on the dial was assumed by a station with new call letters, WRMR.WWWE’s format had been comtemporary music and news, with Pete Franklin’s sportstalk show at night. The new format will be talk shows and news, with the nightly Franklin show retained.“We couldn’t be more excited with this move,” said Art Caruso, president of Lake Erie Radio and general manager of WWWE and WDOK-FM. “However, when you make two stations from three, some people do get hurt, and we’re really sorry that has to happen.”Within the new format, WWWE, the city’s most powerful radio station with 50,000 watts, plans to feature sports and carry the games of the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Cavaliers.
