Injunction stops rockfestNobody tested La Crosse County Circuit Court Judge Peter Pappas’s order banning arockfest Saturday.City police, county traffic police and sheriffs personnel said there was no activity at a site near the Down Under Club on North Losey Boulevard in the Town of Medary.On Friday Pappas issued an injunction blocking a rockfest planned by a group, The Max.Three promoters of the show withdrew their promotion earlier Friday when they were informed that the City of La Crosse and Town of Medary were seeking an injunction to stop the fest.The nine-hour event was advertised to have four bands and 100 half-barrels of beer. Crowds of 2,000 to 3,000 persons had been predicted by Stanley Peterson, Medary chairman.There was no fest activity on Goose Island Saturday either. Goose island had been declared off limits to fest promoters about 10 daysago. The largest gathering on the island was a group of church picnickers.Friday there had been rumors that festgoers might attempt to assemble at Syl's place in Barre Mills. In a check of Syl s at 1:15 p.m. Saturday. there were no festgoers present.Both county and city police maintained a roadblock into the North Losey area. By 2 p.m., no one had attempted to get into the site, police saidOne county traffic police officer said that Sheriff William Black had mobilized a force of at least eight men to be ready Saturday morning in case a fest would be attemptedIn his request for the injunction, John Bos-shard. attorney for Medary, said that promoters of the fest had not provided for sanitation needs, the one-acre site was too small for the expected number of persons, no permit to sell beer had been granted as required by state law, and that a lottery, which is against state law, also was planned.
