A NEW PHASE OF MORMONISM—“ HOLY V THEATRICALS.A correspondent of the Warsaw ((I!,) Sign J gives a rhosi irresistibly ludicrous account of the introduction of t%the legitimate drama” among the other per/armanCes/arcical and other wise id the Holy City. It seems that the “Nauvoo Theatre h is an estabjiahment got Up by the Prophet for the purpose of enabling him to pay off some 6f his more pressing debts through the benrjU of the acts of a company of players, exotic and indigenousIt was. announced that on the S5lb ulb they would fayor the citizens of NauVob' and vicinity, with the “ celebrated ” Tragedy, of Pilarfo, of the death of Ralla, and the41 remarkable: * farce of John Jones of the War Office.. It so happened, however, that on the evening mentioned there came up* a terrible rain Btofto, which pfeventfcd some of the actors from being there \ this, however, did not provent a large audience .from attending, more particularly the ladies, who out of pure charity to Bro. Joseph, came docking like doves, to assist in his holy ttoubhs; sorae of them came in carriages, but others not having the fear of mud before their eyea, came on foot, holding their dresses at half-mast, for fear of getting them wet On learning that the play would nbt cftme off that bight, they repaired to theupper room of the Masonic Hail* Whefe they turned it off with a bail for that evening.J3ri Friday evening, the first performance came «ri, according to appointment. At an early hourHis Highness the Prophet* accompanied by his at* 4endants, made his appearance and took his seat in the chair of State, which was made expressly for the convenience ot his Royal Highness. Ho seemed highly gratified at the able and dig aided manner in which the performance was conducted by the Re* vterend Gentlemen who took the leading characters in the play. Among the ntost cdhspicuoUs of the performers I hotlceU Eldete iJ. Voting and G, A. ^mith of the “ Twelve/* Sind Rev. G. J. Adams, of Spiritual Wife” memory ; also, Elder Tho. A. Lyne, lato supernumerary in the Park Theatre, of New York, who sustained the part of Rolls, in a manner becoming the conspicuous place he lately occupied. The pact of Alopzo was sustained by Elder E, Snow, a worthy preacher of the Gospel.— The part of Elvira was taken by Mrs, Adams, wife of the Rev, Gentleman, and that of Cofa by his sister Miss Adaraa. In justice to the Latin*;! must say they performed their;parte extternely well, particularly Cora. We cannot refrain frorh mentioning that Alonzo’s child was one of G. Ji Adams’ “spiritual babies’4 by Miss »****. 6b shame ! Wum u thy blush T? Nothing remarkable happened during tho performance of the tragedy. Thefarce also passed off very well, with thbexception ofthe Rev. Gentleman, who sustained the part of Guy Goodluck, Esq., who was .under the necessity-of having his part road off to. him by the Prompter. On Monday the performance was advertised for that evening to be Thercse, or the Orphan of Gene*, va—to be concluded with Pizarro. A large audi| ence was in attendance, Elder Adams made his appearance and stated that in consequence of sickness in the family, they would not perform “Therese” that evening, but that Elder Lyne would favor the audience with the speech of Brutus over the dead body of Lucretia, and also that the “ remarkable farce of John Jones of the War Office—to conclude with Pizarro, would be performed that evening—so we had a change—Pizarro and John Jones and John Jones and Pizarro. At the close of.this evening’s. performance. it was stated by Elder Adams that the historical play, Damon and Pythias, and Therese, would he performed bn Wednesday, the 1st inst. and dismissed us with God’s blessing.ThmendfearetBoltohigh.A i the 3 secon polici bowii they lives, the b wordi regulabooEone a affair roots,noW Ron lt;Atand J inst,, meetR«Engl to riu actioi•veverj eral there peaci and iuuisoour fcmensRe diate ness there hoWe be el ing r Re bilitj mem■»temp be lii Re panv the lt;knovHithe r turnR« be piP.r:FLmarksalesold r200 b' Africthe cin atthe yinaaof-9C mo Ai
