10 receive band prizesTuesday, June 8Eleven special band prizus were presented to senior members of Rogers High School band by Theodore Durgin, director, Thursday night during the All-City Band Festival in the high school auditorium.Band pins for exceptional musical growth were presented to Anne Goldberg, Ellen Johnson, Peter Nunes andKevin Bresslcr. Pins and certificates for outstanding work in the State Band were received by Marc Braga, and Matthew Quinn.The Anon Foundation Medal and pins were presented to Laurie Simpson and Gary Carson. Arnold Carson and Paul Canole were given the John Philip Sousa Band prize. Canole also received the Musician’s Union Prize and Carson took the U.S. Marine Outstanding Musician certificate.The All-City Band Festival included all band players from grade 5 to 12 and was directed by Philip Pellitier and Durgin.The event was held in conjunction with the All-City Art Festival and brought to a close a three-day music and art demonstration for the Newport School Department.
