She has been playing the piano for nine years. ‘Tm fascinated by it. the 19-year-old says She likes hearing the songs and sounds you can produce.*’She practices at least two hours every day. and if she ^ preparing for a recital, she practices at least threeThe Miss Iowa pageant begins Thursday and ends Saturday night. On Thursday night. Elef thenou is commuting to Iowa City for lessons this sumEleftheriou also has international experiences which win make her unique among the contestants. She has lived and studied in Greece and is fluent in Greek Her lather, Gus. an international real estate investor, andmother. Barbara, a drapery seamstress, are natives ofGreece.While in Greece. Eleftheriou studied at the American Academy which operates much like schools here. Teachers and students are American.Eleftheriou hopes her background and knowledge of Greece will help her in her interview with the judges.Hopefully that s what they’ll focus on. Eleftheriou loves to design fashion gowns and have her mother sew them for herEl EHIIERIOl FEELS her chances of winning the Miss Iowa pageant and going on to the Miss America pageant are as good as anyone else’s. I feel I’m as at-complished as anyone/ she says casually.She says the other 16 contestants are equally talented she feels she has an added advantage over the others because she is further ahead in school than some and has met a wide variety of people through her travels and her sorority. *In addition. ‘I have so many people working with me to help prepare her for the pageant. Her pageant chaperone and business manager is Sharon RexrothEntering the Miss Burlington pageant last summer was a family affair for the Eleftherious Her mother and father helped her select her wardrobe, and her 21-year-old brother. Sam. jogged with her when she wanted to lose a few pounds.Eleftheriou says she was thinking about her futurewhen she entered the pageant. A science and businessmajor, she hopes to be a hospital administrator someday.She says she entered the pageant primarily becauseit s a scholarship pageant. I never could regret the preparation I did all year. I 11 know I did my best.
