An eight-day cruise to Acapulco, Mexico and a place in the Guiness Bode o World Records is in store for the winners.They were watched by promoters, press and spectators numbering in the tens of thousands w ho came to watch the event co-sponsored by Casablanca Records, label for the rock group “Kiss,” and WCFL radio.THE EVENT IS a fund-raiser for St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, Tenn. There was $2,200 raised from the crowd on the first day. Sunday the figure was expected to double.There’s no conditioning for the event, said Roslyn Linehart of Detroit. She and her husband. David, are figured a favorite to win the contest. They went 100 hours in preliminaries.“You just set your head and kiss,” shesaid, smiling.The Detroit couple, aspiring to gain recognition as blues singers, has showngreat spirit and high determination.A major challenger is the team of Vin-nie Toro and Louise Heath of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., a couple disciplined in yoga. “We’ll be here as long as it takes,” Louise said Sunday during one of the 5-minute breaks alioted couples each hour. They won the kissoff kick-off clocking 96 hours, 32 minutes in Miami.FIRST TO DROP out of the event wasJanice Bartnicki who is eight months pregnant. She got cramps Saturday after four hours and was on her way home to Detroit Sunday with her husband, Andy. Back in Motown, they face the task of finding work and a place to live. But they left the mall at midnight Saturday smiling about their experience.Nausea ended a chance for Rick Dale and Barbara Ruster of Seattle when hegot sick. Taken to the hospital, Rick was found to have an upset stomach. He was all right but out of the competition.“I’m in this to win, or I wouldn’t be here.” said Atlanta’s Don Butts, spitting syllables between spoons of cole slaw at the first 5-minute break Saturday.BIT AT MIDNIGHT, seconds before the twelveth break came, Don conceded that he and his partner, Yvonne Wright, had fallen asleep, parted lips and “were out of it.”Sleeping was no problem for Jeff andSherry Moore of Charlotte N. C. who strapped their heads together with a pink plastic belt and slept through the midnight break, lips securely together.r
