A ‘‘boardcutting ceremony” will takeplace at 2:30 p.m. Friday at their No. 10 Highway East establishment. CKDM will broadcast the Friday afternoon proceedings live from 2 to 4 p.m. Door prizes will be drawn for daily and free coffee and cake will be served on Friday and Saturday.Chimo is an Eskimo expression meaning “1 am your friend.” The first Chimo Store opened in the spring of 1971 in Brandon. The owners were Clayte Swanson and A1Before too long they expanded to Virden and Elk-hoffr# -.-Vv-:Both men were wel! versed and well liked in the lumber industry in Manitoba and before too long friends were asking to use the name to open Chimo Stores. Their Solicitor at that time suggested that they incorporate the nkme and franchise. There are now almost 60 Chimostores stretching from the Alberta Border to Thunder Bay. All stores are independently owned andoperated. xClayte and A1 now arestrictly involved with Chimo Charlie Canada Ltd.In January of 1977 Tonyand Bill obtained the franchise for Chimo Building Centre in Swan River. Due to the rapid growth of their business in Dauphin, they realized they could not splitup their combination thereand it then became a matter of finding a partner.By the end of February they had still not found anyone but had committed themselves to land and buildings in Swan River. They wanted to open this spring, so as not to miss the major part of the building season.Clayte Swanson, of Chimo Charlie Canada Ltd. phoned in early March and said he thought he had found the right man. Shortly thereafter, Tony Ryz, Bill Gavin and Glenn Stinson, formed “Chimo BuildingCentre” M.G.,Stinson Enterprises Ltd. AuthorizedDealer, Swan River, Man.Previously known as “Central Canadian Steel Structures” (Stran SteelBuildings), the 2 acre site located on Highway 10 East In Swan River has a 40’ x70’ building (with 24 x 24 office attached) ideallysuited for a retail lumberstore. Large farm vehicles have easy access and all products can be properlydisplayed.Malcolm “Glenn” Stinson was born in Virden in 1952. He is 25 years of age. His parents Roy and Margaret Stinson still live in Virden.He and his wife, Roberta,have 2 children, Carolyn, 3,and Kevin, 10 months. Shewill handle the bookkeeping end of Chimo Building Centre in Swan River.Glenn started working part-time in the Lumber business at age’ 15. Changing to fulltime when he was 18. He worked in Virden, Dauphin, Brandon, ton, as well as managing a large lumber concern in P^eeceville, Saskatchewan.He has extensive experience in the retail and farm trade sales. With 10 years of working in rural communities in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, Glenn realizes the wants of the rural customer. Materials for utility sheds, grain bins and Pool barns will be stocked in the store in Swan River.Glenn feels the rural and farm people are the backbone of Manitoba. “We, asmerchants owe our livelihood to these people.” Glenn feels that “The rural and farm customers are my kind of people, hard-working and easy-going. Chimo can provide them with service and competitive pricing in a friendly atmosphere.”Anthony (Tony) Ryz was born in Dauphin in 1931 and is 45. He is the son ofand Ann Rvz whoNickimmigrated from Poland in1897 to settle in Dauphin. They farmed just north east of Dauphin.His wife Margaret and he have two children, David, 11 and Barbara 9. Shehandles the bookkeeping end of Chimo Building Centre in Dauphin.May of 1975, Tony started Chimo Building Centre in Dauphin. Previous to that he was home consultant for a large lumber concern travelling the Dauphin and Swan Valley area. Before going into the lumber business, he was a sales representative Powell Equipment calling on the Swan Valley Area. Tony feels that “A home is often a customer’s biggest investment and we haye a responsibility to him. * ’Tony’s expertise is in the housing area. He has built up seven years of experience in the lumber industry, specializing in housing. Tony’s duties in the new store in Swan Riverwill be that of a HomeConsultant. Other dutiesare: Home Consultant in Dauphin and Co-ordinator of Chimo’s Home and Rafter Factory in Dauphin.It was Tony’s dream for the last year to open a store in Swan River.
