The Union Labor Party. This is the name of the new parly that was born at Cincinnati on February 22, 1887, and is to take the place of the now abandoned and defunct greenback party. Naturally the labor party should embrace about nine-tenths of the people of this country. Americans are nearly all laborers. In Lucas county, Mr. Robert Stanley was appointed chairman for the purpose of organization. His pressing duties were such that he could not give the matter proper attention, and he thereupon declined, asking that the honors be placed upon the devoted head of M. T. Gardner ot Jackson. But in the meantime, Mr. Stanley had called a mass meeting to meet at the court house last Tuesday for the purpose of selecting delegates to the state convention, to perfect the county organization, etc.It was not an enthusiastic meeting. About twenty were present. Perhaps the reason uo more interest was taken was the fact that the members of this new party have secured the nomination of their candidate tor the legislature on the republican ticket and are thus in a better position to elect their man than they can hope to be in a separate movement. The great question that agitated the convention was which to do fust—appoint delegates to the state convention, or perfect the county organization. To an outsider this looked like a very trivial question. Yet there were Wm. Griffin. Robt. Stanley, Wm. Goltry, Hardin Exley, Columbus Chambers, M. T. Gardner and Dr. Pendleton who put in two solid hours discussing this question, and getting up enough bad blood to lead one to think he was in a republican caucus. At length the convention voted to proceed to the selection of delegates and Goltry and Chambers were chosen. The letter was so certain that the matter was illegal he refused, point blank, to go. Finally A. M, Reid was chosen. It was a small convention, big only in a first rate storm they had.
