CHARGED WITH A VERY SERIOUS OFFENSE.Geo. Hasselswert Arrested by a U. S. Marshal Today.Capt. F. M. Fanning, of Toledo deputy I'oited States Marshal, was in this city today and placed (ieo. Hasselswert.the well-known Clinton street saloon-keeper under arrest and took him to Toledo at 1:08 p. m., over the Wabash. Hasselswert was indicted by the grand jury in 1J. S. court at Toledo Thursday for wauling obscene literature through the mail.Some time ago Hasselswert sent an obscene advertising card in a letter to a party in Chicago. In backing the letter he forgot to name the party to whom he had written. He only put on thestreet and number. He signed his name to the letter. This letter fell into the hands of a law firm that was doing business at the number given 011 the envelope. The letter was turned over to the post office officials and the indictment of I losselswert followed. The card, which caused the trouble, is of the class of obscene cards that is frequently used in advertising pertain lines of busi-! ness and was obscene in a marked degree. Hasselswert will probably be arraigned Monday. The maximum punishment for an offense of that kind is a tine of #5.000 or 10 years imprison-1 men! or both.
