From the Cincinnati Republican.MOB IN PHILADELPHIA!!A gentleman of this city lias Kindly p»a- jced in our hands for publication, a letterhe received yesterday, written by bis rien at eleven o’clock on Thursday mg R as—which is the latest intelligence from Philadelphia—giving an account of Uicdestruction of Pennsylvania Hall bv th-indignant citizen* of Philadclplnn, whose feelings bad been most grossly outraged ^by the impudent and unjustiliable conduct of the fanatical advocates of Aoohtion and Amalgamation. The letter is subjoined, and it will be perused with mingled emotions of pain and indignation by every friend to the peace and happmcssjof Ids country.Philadelphia, 17th May. 1838.)II O'clock P. M.{*Dear Sir:—I have just returned from witnessing another of ihe toavtul results which attend upon the mad project of disseminating the doctrines ot abolition. Asplendid IIrill erected duiing the past sea- j son, at a cost of $10,000, (and it was truly a magnificent edifice, as I can testify having gone through it this morning:) intended as the builders dcciaicd, for Inc purpose of free discussion: but really meant as an arena for the discussion oflt;Abolitionism, was opened and dedicated jtwo or three days since. Last evening j the gnask was thrown ofi, and several of, the most prominent abolitionists in the Icountiy, such as Garrison, I). P. Brown^c. held forth, advancing sentiments off the most revolting character, and applying j the most offensive epithets to those who: opposed their incendiary doctrines.— j These impudent and daring denunciations j had the effect of producing feelings ol dis-j gust and exasperation, with many of their; auditors, who signified their displeasureby breaking some hundred of the windows, and breaking up the meeting.During the whole of In is day the city , has been in a most feverish and excited-state—the people collecting in large jgroups, (particularly in the neighborhood jof the building) and giving vent to their j feelings in bitter denunciations. Jmmc-j diately after supper this evening^ I saun-j tored up to the neighborhood oi tne Ilall.jsituated on Sixth above Arch street, in ; company with a friend, where we found, the spoilers actually at work, and the; neighboring streets filled with a dense' mass of people cheering tin in on. They found the work of destruction progressing j too slowly under the operation of batter-1 ing ranis and axes, (lor the edifice was verv substantially built) when in order to expedite if, they applied the lurch, which soon enveloped it in flames; and now, what three hours since was “Pennsylvania Hall,” is a heap of smouldering rains. | It is needless to dilate upon the causes j which have excited the peace loving citi-j zensofour native city to this disregard of the laws of the land. It is to be deplored that the moral power of the community is j not sufficiently strong to repress violence, jhowever great the provocation; but if mob- jocracy could ever plead justification, 1think it could be found in flu? case. Indeed, from the tone of public feeling tonight, I would say that at least nine-tenths of the population justify the act. I am told (for i did not attend the meeting) that the Speakers last night openly advocated amalgamation with the blacks, and lenonnced those who would not subscribe to the doctrine, as anti-Christian and ar-stocratic. Garrison, I understand, was jartieularly abusive of the mechanics; classing them with the negroes on the score of intelligence and morality; and to-day, as if determined to conform their iraclice with their proicssion, many fc-nalcs were seen promenading the streetsinn and arm with negro men.During the fire, not the slightest effort vas made to preserve the building, the iremen utterly refusing to throw a drop f water upon it, but directing their efforts o the preservation of the adjoining build-IThe Mayor of the city, with his posse.,s on the ground during the whole ofC 3 conflagration; but I do not learn that| ^ made the slightest effort to at rest the j ^ predators. Indeed, such an cllort would ic been utterly useless.
