Prospect Plaza Charity Fairincreases funds and participationEach year Mount Prospect Plaza’s Charity Fair has grown in both number of participating organizations and in funds raised for he numerous philanthropic projects. This year’s Charity Fair, held at Mount Prospect Plaza, Rand and Central Rds., in Mount Prospect recently was no exception.This year, with 25 organizations participating in the Fair, total booth sales reached an all time high of S5.887.50 against last year’s total of $3,852.23with 20 groups.First place for highest booth sales this year went to a newcomer participating in the Charity Fair for the firsttime. This $50 award was won bv the_Regal Valiant Drum and Bugle CorpParents Boosters Club with $928.20 insales.Second place and a $35 award was captured by N.W. Judges, Dolores . Hough, editor of the Mt. Prospct Times; C. O. Schlaver, executive secretary of Mount Prospect Chamber of Commerce; and Sam Kaplan, manager Jack’s Men’s Shop; had a difficult job in deciding on awards for decorations.First place trophy and $50 went to the Mount Prospect Javcee Wives, 2nd place trophy and $35 to P.L.E.A.S.E. (Paretns League Established to Assist in Special Education) and third place trophy and $15 to Potawatomee District Campfire Girls.There were so many outstanding booth decorations that the Mount Prospect Plaza Merchants decided to give four additional $10 awards for Honorable Mention to the following: Nathan Goldblatt Cancer Research Fund, Northwest Suburban League United Cerebral Palsy, Cadet-Girl Scouts# 361, and Regal Valiant Drum andBugle Corp Parent Boosters Club.With 14 groups vying for the CharityFair Queen title, competition was exceptionally keen, and a total of 361,329 votes were cast at a penny a vote, against last year’s total of 117,928 votes with 13 participants.The Charity Fair Queen Title was won by theRegal Valiant Drum and Bugle Corp Parent Boosters Club candidate Lvnn Jescke with 7*was presented with a crown, trophy and bouquet of mums. First runner up andalso a newcomer organization was Ben Levin Memorial for Retarded Children and their candidate Mickev DavisHfwhose 66,150 votes won a trophy and bouquet.Second runner up and another newr-comer as N.W. Suburban Topics for Combined Nurses Clubs, whose candidate Jill Ziske was presented with a Chrysanthemum bouquet for her 57,344 votes. Third runner up was Jeanette Schmever candidate for Nathan Goldblatt Cancer Research Fund with 56,888 votes. St. Stephen finishedfourth runner-up with their candidateGloria DiMaria having 32,919 votes.This year’s fair brought the addition of a new contest for Charitv Fair Princess into being, by popular demana of many youth orientated gToups. Voting was also a penny a vote with the total votes cast being 94.744.Karla Pierce of P.L.E.A.S.E. ran away with the title of Princess, a trophy and bouquet with 56,816 votes. First runner-up was JoEllen Heaver, of the Crippled Crows patrol Potawatomee District Campfire Girls with 10,000 votes. Seven organizations participated in this Princess contest.Adele Jeschke. promotion director of Mount Prospect Plaza, and co-ordinator of the Charitv Fair and its Queen and Princess contests was extremely pleased with the growing results of the Charitv Fair and statedthat this vear’s event exceeded bv farall her expectations with the total fundsbeing raised by the twenty-five participating groups being $11,293.23. This sum was slightly more than double thatof last vear
