Sensurround was established to createan aura of feeling torrid action as well as seeing it. The third film of its kind.“Rollercoaster;' will pre miere at the Edwards Cinema Theater in Costa Mesa Friday. June 10.Universal Studios has become famous for its array of disaster films over thepast decade. These movies bring in the cash by featuring all-star casts getting thrown about, rumbled ortormented in any numberof highly unusual, grotesque accidents And in every plot one finds the familiar sudsy tales that manage to bore the audience beforegetting to any action. Unfortunately.‘Rollercoaster” will probably be written off as just another one of these films.a designation that hardly gives the work its justified ?redit as a modern-dayhriller.Written bv Richard^evinson and William Linkthe creators of TV's “Colimbo” and directed by fames Goldstone“Winning. “The GangThat Couldn't Shoot Straight”), “Rollercoaster” has an intriguing storyline that is more reminiscent of the Hitchcock silver screen than of its twoSensurround predecessors. “Earthquake” and“Midway.The time filled with suspense will keep everyone in the dark until the final fewmoments of film explode with an uncanny climax, guaranteed to leave the theater shaking.Involved are Timothy Bottoms as a shrewd criminal who tries to extortmoney from amusement parks by declaring to bombits customer-filledrollercoasters, and George Segal as a building and safety inspector who finds it difficult to stop him After a gruesome mishap during the first shots of film. Segal is called in toinspect the coaster that mysteriously derailed. He soon finds himself the onlyman Bottoms trusts to deliver the requested one million unmarked bills.Here, in a role similar toSam Spade in “The Blackbird.” Segal has yet another chance to portray an ordinary. hard-working man who somehow manages toget at the pit of unwanted misfortune. Bottoms winslittle respect from the audi-enc#other than for his abil-itv to mastermind a nearperfect task of becoming so much richer, so muchfasterAlso in the cast are Harry Guardino and Henry Fonda as Segal's employers and Susan Strasberg as his girlfriend. The colorful rock group Sparks portray themselves in a spine-tingling scene at Magic Mountain. the setting for much of the latter part of the show as Bottoms ingeniously decides to strike the crowdedpark on the Fourth of July.
