SCHUMANN-HEINK.The Great Contralto Will Sing in Mfeadville,A contract was made by telegram Friday by the Academy of Music manage* meet and Allegheny College Glee Club with the world’s greatest contralto singer, Madame Schumann-Heink, for a song recital at the Academy of Music, Tuesday, June i7ch. It will be given in conjunction with the Allegheny College Glee Club as the second annual Commencement concert, Madame Seim * tnann Heink’s fame as a contralto singer 3s world* wide, and no one disputes her pre-eminence. She has for several years been the principal Wagnerian artist at the Metropolitan Opera.. House, New York, She is accepting a few redial engagements this spring, finishing her short tour as principal soloist at the Pan-American Music Festival, Buffalo, the week following the Meadvllle engagement. The price paid her is the largest eyer paid an artist for an engagement in Meadville, and the event easily the greatest, musically, since the engagement of Christine Nillson, in the early seventies.
